Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 90

Students work cooperatively every day. This grant helped to benefit 5 third grade classrooms. This is an instrument that many teachers use as a management tool in order to be able to see at a glance how a group of students is performing, and at what level of progress. Any management tool benefits the teacher as it allows the teacher to have a smooth transition throughout the process.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

My goal for this project is for groups to be able to manage their time and status successfully, and for teachers to be able to quickly monitor group-work at a glance, allowing the teacher to divide her time appropriately.

What will be done with my students

These multi-color push lights will be one per group. Each light has 4 different colors. These colors can be used in various ways, but one way could be: white light means "the group is working"; blue light means "group is having some issues but we think we can work through them"; red light means "we need the teacher"; and green light means "we're finished". These lights can also have other uses such as for noise management (example: white means "whisper", red means "no talking"...) and/or in guided reading groups (student progress, or an academic response game).

Benefits to my students

This project would benefit between 90-100 students. This grant request is for all of the students in five third grade classrooms. Students learn through many different methods, and one of these methods is by working with their peers. Students not only can learn academic content from their peers, but they also learn how to interact appropriately. At the same time, students also learn to work together and depend on each other, all within a time frame. This not only allows the students to understand their working situation and to be able to reflect and change their working situation, but it also allows the teacher at a glance to view at which stage each group is performing. This will allow the teacher to know exactly which group needs her assistance immediately.

Budget Narrative

This budget is to be used for six packs of a 5-pack of the Hoover Multi-Color LED Accent Lights with Remote Control. Each package of 5 is $14.89. This will give each of the five teachers six of the push-lights to use with 6 groups. Shipping will be free as I will be using my Amazon Prime account.
