Snap! Science! Thank you

The goal of this grant was to provide students with a safe and engaging way to explore and learn about electric circuits and electronics – BUT – I’m pleased to tell you that students learned this and so much more!!!  Snap! Science! gave students opportunities to learn how to figure things (electronics) out “inside the classroom” instead of just “learning about things” in science. The Snap Circuits provided a hands-on approach to the “E- Engineering” portion of STEAM (STEM).

Using ADI, a powerful teaching strategy that helps teachers and students make a shift from lab science to Argument Driven Inquiry learning, students learned how to state and prove logical claims based on scientific inquiry. Students were asked to answer the question: How does changing the amount of electrical energy affect the ability to cause energy or motion change? After stating their claim (answer), they then used the Extreme Snap Circuits to prove their claim by providing evidence from their creations/ projects made with the Snap Circuits. Learning was then further increase by asking students to justify their answers, critique and question one another. Explosive!

This project was extremely engaging! Students were on task and involved. They were able to not only figure out and explain how electronics worked but also why! It made science more real for my students. Thank you Grant Investors  for all that you do to support teachers and students!

Original Grant Overview

Goal

The goal of this grant is to provide students with a safe and engaging way to explore and learn about electric circuits and electronics.

What will be done with my students

During our STEAM time at school, students will use snap circuits to learn about electric circuits and electronics. Through this exciting hands-on-science approach, the snap circuits are utilized by students to engineer and build exciting projects throughout the year. The real circuit components are embedded in plastic modules that snap together to create all sorts of working circuits and devices; therefore, making it safe for students to use.

Benefits to my students

With access to this science kit, students will gain experience with electronics and the “E- Engineering” portion of STEAM (STEM). The “E” is often challenging for elementary teachers to implement because of limited of resources. Snap Circuits will assist me in providing this opportunity for students. Students working together to engineer and produce creative STEAM projects will develop 21st Century skills of collaboration, building community and communication.

Budget Narrative

The snap circuit extreme science kit by Elenco is available at Walmart online for $95.98. Two-day shipping is free. Taxes ---. It contains over 800 parts that are durable and will allow students to create exciting projects.
