Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 1

The iMac was a tremendous asset to have for the production of the morning announcements. As expected, students were easily able to transfer picture and video files from their phones or the school's iPad to the class iMac for editing purposes, a process that would have taken forever with cables or emailing.

It also allowed us to escape the confines of the production room (the green screen) and get out into the school.

Because our school is equipped with iPads, and most students have iPhones, students were able to get out into the school and film skits and videos. This brought more awareness and variety to our news delivery.

Once at the iMac, they were able to edit images and videos on a large, high resolution screen. All of this culminated in a more engaging and entertaining product for our entire school.

It was clear that students valued the computer. The day it finally arrived students fought over who could use it for the editing of their projects.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

The goal of this grant is to provide my students with a Mac computer in order to learn, create, edit, and publish materials for their peers and community. This is my fifth year teaching and it will be my first year teaching yearbook and journalism.

What will be done with my students

Students will work in small groups learning how to: take and edit pictures for the yearbook and newspaper, record videos of school functions and condense footage into meaningful clips, and learn how to safely and professionally publish this material for their community. A Mac, rather than a PC, will seamlessly integrate the student-popular iPhone, with the district provided Apple TV and the funded Mac to provide easy access to share and display documents with me, the teacher, and to their peers.

Benefits to my students

The entire school and community will benefit because students will have current technology at their fingertips in order to edit and produce: creative morning announcements, a timely school newspaper, podcasts, and a memorable class yearbook.

Budget Narrative

It will be shared by the 10-20 students in a given class period. Editors will have access individually through the after school program.
