Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 20

The Flat Stanley project has been a blessing to my students and myself.  My classes over the years have been able to travel the world.  During our travels we have learned so much about the communities of the world.  We have skyped with Belgium numberous times, and Mr. Pacter, a world traveler, has showed us throughout Asia through his lectures and pictures.

On a personal note, I have made friends with teachers all over the world and continue our friendhships today.

There are not words which can express my graditude for the continued funding of this project.

My hope is that upon my retirement, I can find another teacher within my school who will continue to show SGE students the world!

Original Grant Overview

Goal

To aquaint students with other communities around our country and the world.

What will be done with my students

I have been involved with the Flat Stanley Project for 15 years, and in that time we have received a wealth of usable information about communities in our country and the world. My class will be creating scrapbooks about Naples and our school, and will send them off to requesting schools in the U.S. and the world.
Upon receiving our "returned" Stanleys, each students will orally present items sent and information learned.

Benefits to my students

The Flat Stanley Project has given us a wealth of information about communities in our country and the world. The classes have benefited in many academic areas throughout the year, i.e. weather conditions, like activities, family dynamics, and subjects learned. The class will improve their writing and communication skills, organize information, reply to letters, and learn about the geographical areas in the U.S. as well as the world.

Budget Narrative

Over the years, I have been trying to utilize the internet to visually communicate (via skype) with our host classes. My goal is to improve on a more immediate way of communicating with visiting classrooms. Each student in my classes will be paired-up with a class either in the U.S. or abroad.
