Suncoast Credit Union

Purpose:
The purpose of the proposed program is to continue to increase the integration of technology across the curriculum. CCPS currently has a great deal of technology available to our students in the classroom. I are not looking for the IPads to replace any piece of technology (i.e. Mimio, laptops, etc.). Rather, the IPad will enhance curriculum and allow me to do certain activities with greater ease or complete activities that they might not otherwise have been able to finish in a timely manner or even do with the IPad. Through the use of IPads, students will not only be able to learn and connect with the world beyond the classroom but, they will also be able to connect and collaborate with one another. Students will be able to access apps that increase and reinforce the content and skills which are necessary to attain. Mobile technology helps to motivate and engage our students in the classroom learning environment that fosters acclimation of 21st century skills of effective communication, high productivity, digital-age literacy, and inventive thinking. I will be able to efficiently collect and utilize data in lesson planning and execution. The rigor of the curriculum will be enhanced through higher order thinking skills, problem solving and group work. Collegial collaboration will be increased through shared use of the iPads.
Objectives;
1. To engage all students in a creative and collaborative environment by increasing access to technology
2. To deliver differentiated instruction based on the Florida Standards through technology use in reading, writing, math, science, and social studies.
3.To develop and enrich technology skills, as defined by the National Educational Technology Standards for Students.
4. To infuse music and art throughout the curriculum by using mobile technology.
Indicators of Success: Curriculum Based Assessments, Benchmark Assessments , Standardized Tests and Teacher Observation. Success of the integration of IPad’s in the classroom will also be evident on students’ performances on curriculum-based writing assessments, unit math assessments, and standardized tests.

Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 19

It has been an eye opening opportunity to watch children use a tool of technology to learn in a way I never did as a child. I am not only giving kids a new engaging way to learn, but I am also preparing them for technology in the future. It is exciting! My role as a teacher is to personalize their learning and serve as a facilitator while they direct themselves. Student-centered and student-directed learning is one of the keys that has changed in my classroom. The iPads has giving my students the freedom to move on, to move up, and to be in charge of their learning. I have seen high levels of student motivation, engagement and learning with the iPads, The apps, which teach and reinforce fundamental literacy/math concepts and skills, are engaging, interactive and provide children with immediate feedback. The flipgrid and the Seesaw have made the collaboration possible.  Technology won’t replace teachers, but teachers who don’t teach with technology will be replaced.

What will be done with my students

Engage:
Ipads will be used for HyperDocs & Flipgrid Apply Section Appsmash to engage students at the beginning of a lesson by including a video, image, quote, or another inspirational hook in your topic for student to respond to. Student will respond to a topic sharing what they know. They will reply to themselves and classmates sharing what they want to know. After the lesson or unit students come back to their own video and respond to themselves with what they have learned.
Explore:
Students explore a topic through a collection of resources (articles, videos, infographics, text excerpts, etc.) in the HyperDoc. Teacher will bring in experts and take your students beyond the four walls of your classroom. Students will use the expert videos in the explorer series to learn about new and exciting animals, places and careers. The use of Ipad with HyperDocs application are a perfect accompaniment to this series as I can create digital lessons around these topics and extend the learning in my own classroom . Example HyperDoc. I will create a ‘virtual field trip’. Go to a place (we’re thinking state parks, historical sites, museums, etc) that is of value to your lessons and record short videos of the sites to bring the content to my classroom. Add the videos to a Flipgrid for the students to explore and respond to. Even better collaborate with other teachers across the district, state or even in other countries to create an explorer series for many different classes to connect through.
Apply and Share:
I will will create assignments for students to apply what they learn by using web tools to create, collaborate, and/or connect beyond the classroom. Then collect student work to provide feedback, and/or include a section for students to share work with an authentic audience. Students use storytelling web tools to apply their learning. Then appsmash with Flipgrid and get them to share with the class and beyond! Students show what they know using video or digital storytelling in a different app then upload to Flipgrid to share. Add in any part of or all of this Flipgrid appsmash choice board to the HyperDoc and have students apply then share their learning.
Reflect:
Students have an opportunity for digital reflection on their learning journey using Flipgrid to guide students along their learning progression and set new goals. Students reflect back on the lesson or unit and share what they have learned. This is a powerful way for students to be thoughtful about their learning process.

Other ways to use the IPAD
1.Reading response goes digital. After your class reads an article, chapter or book have them respond to a question about their reading. Take the conversation further by having students comment on each other's responses.
2. Use the ChatterPix Kids app for writing. Students will use the ipad camera to take pictures of their drawings and make anything talk -- pets, friends, doodles, and more. They simply take any photo, draw a line to make a mouth, and record your voice. Then share your Pix with friends and family as silly greetings, playful messages, creative cards, or even fancy book reports.
3. Debate a topic! Add a Flipgrid to the share section of this "Great Debate"
4. Show what you know. Choice and voice are so important for getting students to share their knowledge with us.
5. Reflect on a lesson or unit. Seems simple but having your students reflect on a lesson is great feedback for us as teachers. How did it go? What changes would you make? What was your favorite part?
6. Book talk challenge. Have your students share about their favorite book in 30 seconds or less. Check out this example.
7. Exit tickets get a makeover. Post the question "What did you learn today?" or better yet ask your students "What did you create today?" for the students to answer before leaving class.
8. Number talks. Have students explain their thinking and critique the reasoning of others as they work through a math problem.
9. Brainstorming in the Engineering Design Process. Students can jump very quickly to planning or even building before they get out their ideas in a brainstorming session. with the use of flipgrid they can slow down a bit and capture their thinking as they throw out their ideas on Flipgrid.
10 Student of the week-. Students record a video sharing why that student of the week is special. Students will enjoy watching video messages from their classmates sharing why they are a valued member of their classroom community.
11. Reboot standard biography report-. Students dress up as the person they are researching and record short presentation video.
12. QR codes: Listening centers QR codes allow kids to easily use a listening center without the need for help from an adult.
Other use of IPads
Additional plans of how the iPad will be integrated daily,
- Morning Meeting:
Students will engage in a short lesson reflecting on social-emotional objectives (anti-bullying, self-confidence, decision making, etc.) and take turns posting comments on a blog to which students can reply during anchor activity time (at the end of other subjects). Students who have problems in the classroom can also use the blog to get support anonymously from their classmates.

- Literacy / Social Science Integration:

Students will read high interest novels integrated with the Social Science, Science and Social Emotional curricula and engage in online virtual Literature Circles to discuss, analyze and interact with the texts. Students will also use the Library of Congress website to read historical documents and practice interacting with primary source documents (to not only improve Literacy but Social Science skills as well). Students will also use the EPals in2books© Penpal Program to further explore and discuss their books.

- Science Integration: Students can use the FOSS website as well as the BrainPOP Application to further their science skills. They can also collect and analyze data using the Numbers Application.

2. Alignment to Standards

With the use of the iPads, all Florida's Learning Standards for Math and several for English Language Arts and Social Sciences will all be addressed. As part of an everyday routine, the teacher is able to change the content while still engaging students in problem solving and collaboration.

To ensure alignment to Florida's Learning Standards f we will follow the CCPS curriculum maps which is designed to help teachers plan and pace instruction. In addition to the math standards we will also address the following Reading and Social Science standards through integration of reading the electronic

Establish purposes for reading; survey materials; ask questions; make predictions; connect, clarify and extend ideas.

Continuously check and clarify for understanding (e.g., in addition to previous skills, clarify terminology, seek additional information).

Read age-appropriate material aloud with fluency and accuracy.

Compare and contrast the content and organization of selections.

Connect information presented in tables, maps and charts to printed or electronic text.

Social Science:
Use maps and other geographic representations and instruments to gather information about people, places and environments.

In addition to addressing these Florida's Learning Standards, the everyday use of the iPads allows the teacher to use routines that meet the Florida's Applications of Learning Standards:

Communicating

Express and interpret information and ideas.

Using Technology

Use appropriate instruments, electronic equipment, computers and networks to access information, process ideas and communicate results.

Working on Teams

Learn and contribute productively as individuals and as members of groups.

Making Connections

Recognize and apply connections of important information and ideas within and among learning areas.

Benefits to my students

The possibilities for incorporating the iPad into the classroom are really endless. They make learning fun, relevant, challenging, supportive, and are ideal for this age group. Not only are the apps abundant for the early childhood crowd, the intuitive design and touch screen beg for little fingers. Do I think the iPads should replace paper, blocks, markers, and playdough? Of course not, but they do make a terrific replacement for worksheets that keep showing up in our classrooms. They can replace or supplement learning materials in place that are not as effective as they could be. Using 100 board in place of 100 board tiles and board, for example. I can have one app on the iPad that announces the numbers and doesn't allow incorrect placement of tiles; or dozens of the laminated boards and hundreds of the tiles that get lost, and allow children to mistakenly place 21 on 12's spot and children don't make the number/name association unless I am there to help, and I can't be there for 18+ kids at the same time. iPads allow for powerful differentiation. Every student has the opportunity to work at his/her level and pace. The right apps allow students to develop weak areas through repeated practice and/or move students up to the next challenge. For instance, we use an app called Quick Math. Depending on the student’s level or need, the app gives students the opportunity to practice everything, from basic facts to mental double digit computations. All students are working in a similar interface, and the app tracks each students’ individual progress.
