Goal

By the end of the fourth quarter grading period 80 % of the fifth grade students at Highlands Elementary will show an increase in their physical education effort grade by using a fit bit to track their fitness activity. 

What will be done with my students

Using a prescribed testing procedure as a baseline, the students will identify their current level of wellness. The students will take ownership of their fitness data by learning how to create a personal fitness plan which includes the five components of fitness (cardio, endurance, flexibility, agility, and strength.) In Physical Education class, the activity trackers will be used as a tool that teaches the students how to collect, measure, and record data all of which align with our school culture and district incentives. 

Benefits to my students

The benefit of using the fitness trackers is that the technology engages and empowers the students with specific immediate feedback which in turn motivates the student to move with a purpose. The fitbit activity trackers provide an incentive for the students to make proactive choices which help to prevent diseases and promote healthy lifestyles.
All in all, the benefits of using the fitness trackers will engage student learning because at Highland Elementary students are leaders who created the following mission statement:
"Commit To Be Fit!"
