Goal

To create an interest in reading by bringing the latest information into the classroom for high school students to see what is taking place in the real world business and tech industries.  

What will be done with my students

Students will look through different issues of technology magazines that report the most innovative advances in different areas of business and technology. Once the students have found an interesting article they will be required to write a reflective essay on the article. By doing this activity the students will keep a journal of interesting occurrences in fields that they are interested in and give them a connection to real world happening instead of just using textbooks. The students will keep a reflective journal online and questions that arise from reading the newspaper will provide a springboard for classroom discussions. With the subscriptions to different magazines the students will be able to find articles that they are interested in. The magazines will supplement classroom materials with real-life examples.  

Benefits to my students

The magazine subscriptions will be used in all of my classes including entrepreneurship and will provide a means of motivating the students to think outside of their normal classroom box. With the exposure to the latest in technology students may take an interest in different fields of study that they may not have before. It will also help students gain a better knowledge of the vocabulary that we use in class because they will be reading it in print. The exposure to these real world articles will increase the students’ vocabulary and reading comprehension. The students will truly appreciate that experience.
