Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 18

My fifth grade students and I are extremely grateful to our donor for this generous grant.  This grant has allowed my students the opportunities to make Picture Video presentations, use educational websites, and using the iPads play educational games such as "kahoot".  The iPads allow the students to learn in a fun and engaging format as they are increasing their background knowledge, their vocabulary and reading comprehension.  The students love using the iPads and the creating of the Picture Videos inspired so much cooperation, socialization, and discussion among the students.  I learned that by increasing the interest level of the students that they were increasing their reading comprehension by having fun.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

My goal is to provide a way for my 18 special needs students to incorporate and get excited about taking notes, learning new information, and creating assignments utilizing an iPad.

What will be done with my students

The students will take notes, learn new information, and create educational projects in their learning environments.

Benefits to my students

GTE participates in BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) to school. However, this is a Title 1 school and very few of my special needs students have devices to bring to school. In addition, many of my students have minimal attention spans and learning the traditional way is very difficult for them. By giving students an iPad on which they can learn and practice real world skills the students are learning independence. Students need an interactive, stimulating and engaging way to motive and promote their interest to take ownership of their learning and education. The digital world is the learning environment of today.
