My goal is to give students an individual working space that allows them to get up and move around the room while solving problems on the white board. My classroom has two white boards in it, but we would like a large white board on wheels that can be used when students are practicing math, or wheeled around as needed.

Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 150

Through the use of the white board, I have been able to differentiate my instruction according to each student's abilities.  In the classroom, I divide the board into sections, and each student is assigned a number (section).  Each section has a different math prohlem, ranging from approaching grade level, on grade level, and beyond grade level.  By doing this, students do not feel as if they are singled out, but I am conscious of what problems I am giving each student.  When students are done and I have checked answers, I give them another number (section) to move to.  The questions get more challenging for each student (beyond level students switch between beyond level stations).

My students really enjoy doing this because it gets them out of their seat, and their neighbors at the station next to them are almost always willing to help out when someone is stuck.  I have seen an increase in enthusiasm for math since I have started to do this with my classroom, and many students are now asking, "Can I start at a hard problem?  I know how to do it!"  Those are words every teacher loves to hear!

Original Grant Overview

Goal

My goal is to give students an individual working space that allows them to get up and move around the room while solving problems on the white board. My classroom has two white boards in it, but we would like a large white board on wheels that can be used when students are practicing math, or wheeled around as needed.

What will be done with my students

Students will be able to work individual word problems on white boards through out the room. They can move to different equations as they complete them. Students will be able to go "full circle" around the room and solve all problems individually or with partners.

Benefits to my students

With an extra white board, students will be given a different approach to mathematics. This allows them to move and it holds their interest better than pencil and paper. In my intensive math classroom, I believe that practice and repetition are the keys to student success.

Budget Narrative

The cost of the white board is $339.99 on Amazon.com.
