Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 18

Wow! This grant has truely impacted my studen't love of reading.  They are motivated to use the program because it provides several choices on, above and right below their reading level. They enjoy being able to listen to the book first, then read them a second time before taking a comprehension quiz.  The program is tablet and computer friendly so all students are able to access it at home as well as in the classroom.  I have seen the students' reading levels jump quicker this year because they have access to more text that they can read and practice at home with.  95% of my class has met their end of the year reading level goal or surpassed it and the one student who didn't is only 1 level behind their end of the year goal.

As a teacher I love that I can assign books as well as set and move reading levels. It also has provided feedback based on how the students are performing on the quizzes that has allowed me to adjust my instruction and help them based on theses area of need.  I added an additional motivational piece that any student who listened, read and quizzed on 100 books would recieve a 100 book challenge metal.  I have had 75% of the class achieve this goal as well as I anticipate 90% to have accomplished this by the end of the school year.

Thank you so much for making this grant possible and for helping my students achieve reading success in first grade!

With this program I hope to have more reading materials available to my students in the classroom and at home to increase their comprehension and fluency.

What will be done with my students

In class, students will be assigned weekly books to read during computer and ipad centers. They will be able to read materials on their reading level in a digitally attractive format. They will complete comprehension activities and complete running records.
At home students will have a digital library of leveled readers which they can choose from to complete their nightly reading log.

Benefits to my students

The benefit of this program is that students will be exposed to a larger variety of text on their reading level in class and at home. They will develop fluency and comprehension through reading the books, completing recorded running records, and comprehension test.
