The goal of this grant is to empower students who do not speak English, to be able to feel as if they can fit into an English speaking classroom successfully, as they are able to understand what is expected of them academically.With the ECTACO Partner LUX 3 English <-> Spanish Free Speech Electronic Translator & Language Teacher - Learn Spanish & English, they will be able to understand teacher directions and expectations, as what is said in English, is translated into their native language. This will give students a sense of success and confidence, as they are not floundering any longer, unaware of what is the expectation of the classroom.

Impact to My Classroom

Than you very much to Arnold Klinsky, to funding our grant so that students who do not speak English have an easier time transitioning into the English language. This is a machine that I will be able to use year after year, for numerous students. Leon was the main student this year that beneffitted from this device, though it was briefly used with two otehr students. Leon was able to use the device to scan English text and ahve it translated into his language. He used this feature of the device for the core reading book, directions on worksheets, as well as directions for math tasks. I was also able to speak more lengthy verbal directions into the device, and had it translate those directions into his language, in order for him to read and listen to the directionsto understand the task. I am appreciative to have received funding for this device, as it will be able to be used in years to come.

Goal

The goal of this grant is to empower students who do not speak English, to be able to feel as if they can fit into an English speaking classroom successfully, as they are able to understand what is expected of them academically.With the ECTACO Partner LUX 3 English <-> Spanish Free Speech Electronic Translator & Language Teacher - Learn Spanish & English, they will be able to understand teacher directions and expectations, as what is said in English, is translated into their native language. This will give students a sense of success and confidence, as they are not floundering any longer, unaware of what is the expectation of the classroom.  

 

What will be done with my students

The ECTACO Partner LUX 3 English <-> Spanish Free Speech Electronic Translator & Language Teacher - Learn Spanish & English device will translate teacher directions and explanations into a child's native language. The teacher will simply speak into the microphone on the device, and it will translate it in real time for the students in need! The children will be able to hear, and read what is said in English, in Spanish. It will also scan text, and translate the text into their native language! This will assist students in all subjects with directions, explanations, stories, assignments, and assessments. The children are seeing the English, yet are using their native language to correlate to it! There are also programs on this device for the student to continue to learn English. This device will teach the alphabet, words, and phrases to students, so that they are able to start learning the English language, while understanding academics through their own language. The student will be able to use this throughout the day as an added tool to the instruction that is occurring, to help the student understand the instruction occurring.  

 

Benefits to my students

The ECTACO Partner LUX 3 English <-> Spanish Free Speech Electronic Translator & Language Teacher - Learn Spanish & English device is large and colorful, as well as a touch-screen, to make it easier for students to use. In this technological age, students are very savvy with technology, and will adapt to this device quite easy. The students who do not speak English will benefit from this device as they will be able to understand what is expected via the translation; with the "U-Learn" program on the device they will be able to memorize words, learn their pronunciation, and learn if they are pronouncing it correctly as it is voice interactive. It immerses students at their own level through the learning programs. This device will highly benefit students as it is an additional tool to instruction, to better prepare the students who do not speak English, for their education in the classroom.
