Original Grant Overview
Goal
Students who need a Modified Curriculum within high school will be provided a bus equipped with a wheelchair lift for fieldtrip transportation to collaborate with other Collier County high schools and participate in activities that re-enforce knowledge that has been taught within a modified curriculum using the Unique Learning System.
What will be done with my students
During both fall and spring semesters after completing our Unique Learning System monthly units, Golden Gate High School students who learn within a modified curriculum travel to a "host" high school within Collier County to participate in many peer challenges. In October we travel to Immokalee High for our Unique Academic Team Challenge and in December we travel to Lely High for our Unique Science Fair. In February we travel to Naples High for Project Unify field day and in April we travel to Palmetto Ridge High for the Unique/Project Unify talent show.
Benefits to my students
To participate in these academic and social activities we must pay for two busses for travel. The bus with a wheelchair lift does not accommodate seats for all of our 32 students and 6 instructional staff members; therefore, we must pay for a larger bus as well. Funding to get two busses for four fieldtrips has become a challenge. We want all of students to be able to travel, but the students who use wheelchairs can only travel on buses with a chair lift. All of our students look forward each year with excitement and eagerness to socialize with their peers and to have the opportunity to demonstrate their many abilities.
Budget Narrative
The rental cost per hour for the bus with a wheelchair lift is $21.50 plus the cost of a bus attendant (required) is $15.07 per hour. The time length of travel will be around 5 hours per trip and plan to take 4 academic field trips.
$21.50 + $15.07 = $36.57 x 5 hrs.= $182.85 X 4 field trips = $731.40
