Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 16

I am very grateful that my grant Engaging All Students was fulfilled. Trying to keep all students engaged all of the time can be difficult. Since including individual dry erase boards and markers to the classroom it has become easier and the students love using them.  As a teacher I love the immediate feedback by being able to see how my students are thinking as well as being able to monitor those who need a little extra assistance. Since introducing the markers and boards to my class I have noticed that I am spending less time redirecting improper behavior. Since everyone is actively engaged and are busy trying figure out a correct answer there is less time to be off task, not to mention it is easy for me to see who is not working. We use our dry erase boards throughout the day. We use them first thing in the morning for morning carpet time and to figure out the number of the day. We use them in our small math and reading groups as well as in whole group learning. Using dry erase boards are also good for the environment. During our recent unit on recycling we talked about how much paper we saved everyday by using the white boards instead of paper. Using individual dry erase boards and markers has given me a fun way to engage all learners.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

The goal of my grant is to actively engage all students by using individual dry erase boards and markers. It's a great way of keeping the entire class actively involved in all lessons.

What will be done with my students

When it comes to active engagement, nothing beats a classroom whiteboard. Not the expensive high-tech kind but the low-tech white boards that students write on with dry erase markers. By giving each student their own board and markers I can engage every student in every single lesson. During each lesson I will be able to know exactly who’s grasping the concepts and who’s not just by looking at what they write on these boards. Best of all, students love them because they are fun.

Benefits to my students

There are many benefits to using individual dry erase boards in the classroom. Kids love them because they are fun. Teachers love them because it allows them to see who is understanding concepts and who needs more practice. It can be used in whole group, small groups and learning centers. It saves valuable paper. Best of all mistakes made can easily be erased and corrected.

Budget Narrative

I would like to be able to purchase 12 single sided dry erase lap boards as well as five 12 packs of black expo markers and five 10 packs of assorted color expo markers. The dry erase boards will be used from year to year. The markers will be used throughout the school year by all students.
