Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 950

Many of our grade levels have benefitted from using the zoomies this year. They were able to explore many objects up close and in detail very easily. The 1st graders have a whole learning goal about magnifiers and were able to observe many different things on the computer. The details that you can see with the zoomy is amazing. Students were able to try to look at the magnified image and guess the item as well. They also practiced their science notebooking skills by drawing and labeling what they saw.  We will definitely continue to use them for years to come.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

I would like to use Zoomies at all grade levels to help teach about science tools and improve observation skills.

What will be done with my students

Zoomies are digital microscopes that are so easy to use that even Kindergartners can use them by themselves. They plug into a computer and you hold the zoomy up to any object and it will project the 43x magnified image onto the computer screen. Many grade levels have science standards to learn about magnifiers but microscopes can be very difficult for small children to use. Zoomies make it easy to magnify and observe almost any object! Students will use this to look at many objects and make observations that they can sketch in their science notebooks. We will use them to look at leaves and vegetables from our school garden and our caterpillars as they turn into butterflies. 4th and 5th graders will use them to more closely observe their science fair project results.

Benefits to my students

All students at our school will benefit from having the Zoomies by being able to learn about magnifiers in a more hands on and accessible way. They will also be able to make observations about many of their science labs more easily by using the Zoomies.
