Goal

To provide more reading options for students in the classroom and to engage them in reading.

What will be done with my students

Students have a book report requirement every quarter. Some students do not have books available at home and others cannot check out books from the library because of fines. My goal is to build a better classroom library with new books that match the interests of the students in my classroom. I incorporate Free Read Friday in my classroom to give students the opportunity to really get into a good book and learn to love reading. New books for the library would give my students even more opportunities to immerse themselves into a book of interest.

Benefits to my students

1. Increased interest in reading by matching student interests to the books in my classroom.
2. Allowing more students access to books of their choice.
3. Students will be more engaged in reading if they have more options in the classroom.

Budget Narrative

Based on the average price of a paperback book being between $5-$6, this would buy roughly 15-20 new books for our classroom library.
