Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 60

With the support from all of you the speech classroom at LOE now has updated speech and language games. We have enjoyed using the Photo Articulation cards for playing games such as "Go Fish" and "Matching". What is so much fun about all the new games is the students don't even realize they are working on improving their articulation or increasing their use of language. The students love using Grannies Candies to work on their vocabulary development and understanding of grammar rules. Thank you again for all your support and keep an eye out for more pictures!

Getting Silly in Speech!

Original Grant Overview

Goal

The goal is to help the students at Laurel Oak elementary (grades Pre K-5th) with speech and language goals improve their speech and language skills with fun modern games that will keep them engaged and excited to come to speech/language therapy.

What will be done with my students

On a day to day basis students enter the speech/language therapy room to develop and gain skills that they are struggling with. Students may be working on developing their understanding of language skills from grammar skills to social language as well as improving their speech intelligibility (i.e., working on that /r/ sound) so they can become effective and efficient communicators with both teachers and peers. The new materials in the Speech/Language therapy room will allow the students to work on their goals in a more interactive and fun way to meet their individualized education plan goals. No one likes to just sit around and color pictures...the playing cards and board games allow for therapy time to be fun all while working on goals and improving their speech!

Benefits to my students

With the new materials in the speech and language room students will be able to work on targeted goals to allow them to become better communicators but also help them meet grade level and age appropriate standards in the classroom.

Budget Narrative

These materials allow the Speech Language Pathologist to work on a variety of goal areas including articulation, grammar, vocabulary, sentence structure, and new word meanings.
