My goal is to provide a Mimio vote system to be used with our classroom Mimio white board system for the Kindergarten and First grade teams at Veterans Memorial Elementary School. The Mimio vote system engages the youngest learners. I will be able to preview what the students know in language arts skills, math, science and social studies and then find out what they have learned at a quick glance by the end of the intsruction. The vote system provides quick and easy acess to student responses and records the data for grading and reporting. It provides immediate feedback and excite the learners.

What will be done with my students

I will design higher order thinking questions to go with our language arts, science, math and social studies units to meet our new Florida curriculum standards. Each student is assigned a clicker. Questions will be posted on the board usning the mimio interactive system. Students willl push the button that goes with the answer they choose. It is easy for the younger students to use as the buttons they can choose from light up. When the students answer the data is displayed on the board in a colorful graph display. The data is captures by student number so I can use this information to tailor and deepen further instruction.

Benefits to my students

I will share the mimio vote sytem with the fourteen k-1 teachers on a daily sign-out basis and train them to use it as well. The Mimio vote is used as a "monitoring" piece. Teachers can access instantly what the students understanding of a concept is (formative assessment). This data can then be used to tailor instruction to meet the individual needs of each student. The data is captured and displayed so both the student and the teacher can use it to improve understanding. Questions can be pre-made in advance or the teacher can post questions on the fly.Students are highly motivated by the Mimio vote system and it is effective way for teachers to use assessment that informs instruction. This take learning into the 21st century in a real and exciting way! This system will be used by 304 students and fourteen teachers throughout the year. It will be an integrated part of our language arts, math, science and social studies instruction. With this direct feedback students will be able to improve their ability to answer higher order thinking skills questions and score better on our end of year assessments.
