What will be done with my students

Middle school students often find it challenging to connect textbook content with real-world applications in civics and history. Traditional methods can limit engagement and retention. There is a pressing need to adopt innovative teaching tools that make history and civics vivid, relevant, and participatory. Nonfiction books provide authentic perspectives and factual depth, while wireless tour guide technology offers dynamic, student-centered exploration, promoting active learning.

Benefits to my students

This project aligns with the Florida State Standards for Social Studies in grades 7 and 8, specifically targeting Civics and U.S. History standards that support student understanding of government, citizenship, and historical development. Mastery of the standards are required to pass the Florida Civics EOC in seventh grade. Goals of this project include: increase student engagement through interactive and multimedia experiences, improve comprehension and retention of nonfiction content by 20% as measured by pre- and post-assessments, foster critical thinking and civic responsibility among seventh and eighth grade students, and equip teachers with innovative instructional strategies for enhance learning environments that promote movement. Student progress will be evaluated using pre- and post-tests, student feedback surveys, teacher observations, and participation metrics during tours.
