Walton Education Foundation

The goal with these 2 student iPads will be an exciting new way of student led TV production! We want to train our 4th grade student council and WFES News Crew on not only how to write a script for a new show, but also how to deliver the news on air, reading the script on the iPads at a table, and even how to edit the recordings to produce a show to send out to the entire school!

Goal

The goal with these 2 student iPads will be an exciting new way of student led TV production! We want to train our 4th grade student council and WFES News Crew on not only how to write a script for a new show, but also how to deliver the news on air, reading the script on the iPads at a table, and even how to edit the recordings to produce a show to send out to the entire school!

What will be done with my students

These iPads will be extremely beneficial to producing a high-quality news show for our entire staff and students at Freeport Elementary! As the TV production director, I will be aiding our 4th grade students on how to receive news updates from teachers and school events and transforming that into a written and readable script by using the iPads. The students will then be able to put it in a read mode, or presentation view, to read during the filming of the show. Our 35 student council members will trade out jobs as the news crew – some will be behind the scenes, working the audio and lighting for the show, some will travel around the school and even to events like Special Olympics, field days, and musical performances to record videos for the show, but ALL student council members will eventually be the anchors/reporters. That means all of the crew will have the chance to read and write the script using these ipads. The students will also be able to use these iPads to produce the show using Adobe Creative Cloud programs and OBS broadcast software. And all of this will be continued from year to year-with different 4th grade student council crews receiving this amazing opportunity!

Benefits to my students

The benefits to our student council students include being trained on an amazing new skill that could inspire and educate for future careers in TV production and news reporting! Freeport Elementary has recently renovated most of the school, including my new music room, new cafetorium and stage and sound/light system, and our beautiful new Innovation Center, which is where we are featuring this new TV Studio room with professional quality TV production equipment. We are currently in the process of adding just a few more items to help us produce a very high-quality news show for our school. The ipads will be the final touch in being able to have students lead this process instead of just the teachers doing all the tasks. And with our new technology, we will be able to share our news shows with students’ parents as well--something we have never done before now! This will benefit our school AND community in school culture and events! We are very excited to be able to broadcast a more professional show that is relevant to the high-tech society we live in today. In turn, after we learn the technological capabilities ourselves, we will pass our knowledge to not only our students, but to other TV production teachers in Walton County, just as Mr. Brown at Butler Elementary has helped us! We love to collaborate and help make Walton County schools truly EPIC!

Budget Narrative

I am asking for two 10th generation (most recent) Apple iPads, but went with the basic options (64gb, no keyboard, no Apple Pencil, etc.). I figured those options could always be added later if needed. I also declined the AppleCare+ coverage, an additional $70. If that is a possibility for this grant, and is something everyone thinks is needed, please let me know. On the apple website it shows free shipping to 32439, and with $62.86 for taxes, bringing the total to $960.86.
