While we are only a few simple experiments into our school year, my class unanimously states "WE LOVE SCIENCE!" My goal is to capitalize on this early enthusiasm and apply it throughout the school year, utilizing a variety of hands-on activities and manipulatives to keep this love growing!

Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 18

This generous grant facilitated the development of a Science curriculum for my VPK classroom. Upon receipt, my VERY eager students and I dug in immediately and enjoyed teacher-created units including Magnets, Bugs/Insects, Nutrition, Animals, 5 Senses, Life Cycles, Plants & Weather/Seasons utilizing these hands-on supplies. As a result, 100% of my students met expectations on teacher-created unit assessments and ALL of my students now name Science as their favorite subject!  Thanks to your generosity, my students will be entering elementary school with a strong foundation and love of science.

I look forward to the continued use of these resources in the years to come and am incredibly grateful for this generous funding!

Original Grant Overview

Goal

While we are only a few simple experiments into our school year, my class unanimously states "WE LOVE SCIENCE!" My goal is to capitalize on this early enthusiasm and apply it throughout the school year, utilizing a variety of hands-on activities and manipulatives to keep this love growing!

What will be done with my students

Materials requested will provide engaging, age-appropriate experiences in Science as we venture through or curriculum's components of Scientific Inquiry, Life Science, Physical Science, Earth & Space Science, Our Environment and Engineering/Technology. As specific units are introduced monthly, the materials in this grant should provide a full year's worth of fun and exploration via core instruction, small groups and free-choice learning centers.

Benefits to my students

The fulfillment of this grant will provide essentials to facilitate learning as we do best - through hands-on exploration and play. I fully expect the outcome of 100% of my students "meeting expectations" on teacher created unit-ending assessments. Because I readily share materials throughout our school, the procurement of these items could impact as many as 145 students this year.

Budget Narrative

I am requesting carefully selected, core, durable materials to enhance our scientific studies of the 5 senses, plants, animals, bug & insects, weather & seasons, life cycles, nutrition and magnets.
