Original Grant Overview
Goal
The goal for this grant is for developmentally delayed students to learn and experience how to play musical instruments. I want students to be able to express their feelings through musical instruments.
What will be done with my students
Up to 12 students will be impacted and 1 teacher will be impacted by this grant. In future school years up to 12 students a year will be impacted. Students will learn how to handle and play instruments properly. They will learn how rhythm in music can express how a person feels. Students will watch demonstrations by the teacher and videos on how to handle and care for the instruments. The classroom teacher will be responsible for the activities and for the care of the instruments. The students will practice using the instrument at least 2 afternoons a week. This activity will take place in the classroom.
Benefits to my students
The projected outcome is that students will be able to use music to express how they feel. Students will learn how to properly handle drums, rhythm sticks, egg shakers an various other musical instruments. At the end of the school students will be evaluated by showing how to use rhythm sticks properly, how to use drums properly and how to use other musical instruments. They will also be able to explain how music makes them feel when they are playing the instruments.
