Walton Education Foundation

Have you ever been working so hard on trying to complete a task, but the noise around you keeps bothering you? Quite annoying isn’t it? Unfortunately, in a classroom many students are often faced with this problem when they are completing computer-based assignments, working on online remediation programs or taking online tests.
As a teacher, we see our students struggle to focus on their assignments and become frustrated due to the noise of the other students. Teachers are always trying to find a way to be able to differentiate instruction in the classroom while working with one group and allowing another group to work on computer-based assignments and remediation programs. One way to help the students is to provide them with high quality head phones for their personal use when they are completing computer-based assignments, and remediation programs.
The website Schoolsin, offers headphones designed for classrooms, that comes in an easy portable carrying case that teachers can easily carry to various places such as computer labs for the students to use, and to store them safely in the classroom. These headphones will be easily accessible to the students and will provide them with a computer-based learning experience without background noise causing them to become distracted or frustrated.

Goal

Have you ever been working so hard on trying to complete a task, but the noise around you keeps bothering you? Quite annoying isn’t it? What will be done with my students

If granted the class set of headphones, we will permanently integrate them in our classroom daily. Students will use them to complete computer-based assignments, to participate in online remediation programs, such as IREADY, that align with the Florida State Standards, along with using them to take STAR assessments. These headphones will give the students the ability to work in a quiet atmosphere so that they can focus on the task at hand without background noise or distractions. We plan on using the headphones in all subject areas, and in the computer labs. By May of 2019, students will have used the headphones at least 45 minutes a week in either reading or math computer-based remediation program, IREADY and daily while taking AR tests. We also plan on use the headphones when the students take the STAR Reading and STAR Math assessments that are taken three times a year.

Benefits to my students

Currently there are 66 students and 3 teachers that would benefit from having these class sets of headphones. However, the class sets of headphones will continue to stay with the 5th grade teachers, therefore many more students to come will be impacted throughout the years. By the end of the year, 80% of students will demonstrate proficiency on the Florida State Assessment, teacher created classroom assessments, and/or STAR Enterprise assessment in math and reading. This goal will be reached by using the headphones to provide the students with a quite environment to complete computer-based assignments, remediation programs, and while taking their STAR assessments.

Budget Narrative

For the total of $1059.64 we will recieve 3 class sets (24 per set) SC-7V headphones and a convenient plastic carrying case. The headphones come with a 3.5mm plug, so you can use them with iPads, iPods, Android devices, MP3 players, CD players, listening centers and more. Soft, leatherette ear cushions fit over the ears and block out distracting noises. Volume controls on the ear cup allows students to adjust the sound level as needed. This total includes shipping to our school. This total averages to roughly $14.71 per set of head phones.
