Many families in Pinellas County are experiencing food insecurity; they don't know where their next meal is coming from. Feeding our students who are in desperate need will not only help them be better able to learn but will also alleviate the stress and anxiety associated with with food insecurity. The PCS Pantry is unique in that school social workers bring the food to the families and removes an additional barrier that many families face, lack of transportation or inability to get to an open pantry outside of their work schedule. This Pantry will also link families to needed resources to work on solving the challenges that created food insecurity in the first place.

“Purposeful Pathways: Possibilities for Elementary Music Classrooms” is an extensive collection of curricular materials for learning music by making music. Based on the philosophies of Orff Schulwerk, Kodály, and eurhythmics, this collection of developmentally sequenced learning activities offers elementary general music educators diverse choices for how to present folk song from diverse cultures and original material, including lessons in singing, literacy, movement, improvisation, composition, and instrumental ensemble. Each lesson is a collection of learning pathways, to be selected by the teacher, that unfold over time offering possibilities for differentiated instruction and flexibility in diverse classroom settings. This flexible design makes this resource helpful to all teachers, first year to seasoned educators!

In order for students to learn, they need to do more than just listen. They need to see it, they need to touch it, and they need to experience it. Augmented and Virtual reality does just that. Augmented Reality and virtual reality will be used to help students have background knowledge and gain visual, firsthand experiences with different scientific concepts. Augmented Reality can also increase interest and engagement within the classroom. Students can use the augmented reality to research and present information. My goal is to create a portable MERGE cart to be used in 5th grade classrooms. With this cart, team teachers will get the cart with electronics and cubes to use for instruction. This cart will provide teachers with access to merge software which includes many different scientific concepts. Teachers can use the cubes to help provide background knowledge for students before science lessons. They can also help English language learners have access to English concepts with visuals. Merge also provides opportunities for students to build play and understand within the app. For instance, they can see how a seed turns into a plant overtime without waiting for a real plant to grow. IPAD or Tablets are needed to be able to use the Merge Explorer and Merge Object Viewer App. Each device will need a subscription. I would like to have nine cubes and nine devices. I think the cart would work best if teachers used it for small groups and were able to monitor student’s activities.

The purchase of Versatiles will increase the level of differentiation and independence with my my varied student population. This promotes Pinellas County’s vision of 100% student success. MY goal is for my students to move to 3rd grade with all the skills they need, and even be above grade level.

My goal is to create a classroom where all of my students feel physically and emotionally safe. My goal is to always grow their minds but also to create more independent, motivated and resilient children. Flexible seating will provide a more comfortable and conducive learning environment for my varied student population. This grant would not only effect my students this year but many students for years to come.
