Students will experience the richness of traditional tales, realistic fiction, fantasy, and informational texts that will allow to move from emergent to fluent readers. The goal is to continue the work that has been done in kindergarten through third grade by providing another year of systematic teaching strategies outlined by Jan Richardson to increase our students ability to fill in the holes they need in foundational skills while increasing their ability to comprehend text to meet the rigor to the common core standards.

Getting to the KORE of Learning

Lynch Elementary School

KORE stool wobble chairs increase student engagement and time on task by allowing students to wiggle and move as they work. KORE stools also help students develop much needed core strength by encouraging balance and stability in a moving work environment. Currently in my classroom, I have several options for flexible seating. One choice that I have is small stools that I purchased from IKEA. Over the last two years, I have watched my students try to balance on one leg of these stools and end up falling over or having the stool fly out from under them! No matter how much I warn them, they just want to move. The KORE wobble stool is the solution to this problem! The stool allows students to tip and lean without the danger of tipping over.

ACH- Financial Literacy 2018

Lakewood High School

My goal is to inspire students to follow their dreams and overcome all stumbling blocks along the way. I am requesting two class sets of The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. The Alchemist is a story about a young shepherd who dreams about visiting the Egyptian pyramids. Santiago, the protagonist, decides to abandon the safe, well-traveled path of tending to sheep. He learns life lessons and overcomes difficulties along his journey. I believe this novel is relatable and teaches students to pursue their goals. Setting tough goals and chasing them is a cornerstone of a successful capitalist society. I believe this novel will help inspire students to become more financially literate.

These books are for more regular English 3 students. Getting lower-level students to read novels is always a challenge. I believe they will find this book interesting and inspiring. Being able to comprehend what you read and think critically are invaluable life skills. According to Fast Company, the average CEO reads approximately 60 books per year. The world’s best and brightest minds are idea sponges who learn as much as they can from a variety of sources.

So many students summon the courage to put themselves out there, to be vulnerable and let others see such personal work, but there is always a black cloud over their heads because our funding is always in question. The school does not have the money to pay for the printing of the magazine.

Palm Harbor Community

Financial literacy is an important skill to learn, especially given that most of our population is at or near the poverty line. Moreover, as a GED preparatory school, most of the skills that a financial literacy program would cover are easily transferable to the math portion of the GED test. There is both a need and the desire for a financial literacy curriculum and GED preparation within our community; however financial need stops most interested members of our community from taking advantage of such resources. While we have several textbooks and workbooks for advancing a financial literacy curriculum, we do not currently have the funds to take on those in our community that would most benefit from such a curriculum. We would therefore use this grant to fund a series of need-based scholarships to allow the poorest members of our community to learn GED preparation with a financial literacy focus.

Pinellas Central Elementary School

My goal is to allow my students to learn more about mathematics and purchase materials that they can use through making fiscal decisions with the money (Dojo Dollars) that they earn in class. Students currently earn Dojo Dollars in our classroom for their behavior, by helping others and for completion of classroom activities. I also want my students to be able to use mathematical content at home with families which will contribute to future financial literacy and for the students by involving parents. My goal is to also foster number sense through the mathematical games that will be sent home through the grant.

Suncoast - EUREKA TEACHER EDITIONS

Maximo Elementary School

OBTAINING A FULL SET OF EUREKA MATH TEACHER EDITIONS FOR GRADES K THROUGH 5 WOULD ALLOW ACCESS TO ALL OF OUR EDUCATORS EQUITABLE RESOURCES. THIS WOULD BE LIFE ALTERING S FOR OUR SCHOLARS EDUCATION. HAVING ACCESS TO TE EDITIONS WILL GIVE RICH MATH RESOURCES TO ALL OF OUR STAFF WHILE THEY ARE PULLING SCHOLARS AT PROMISE TIME, SATURDAY SCHOOL, SMALL GROUPS ETC.Following is a synopsis of Eureka Math curriculum and how it benefits all math scholars as it meets the mathematical shifts, focus, rigor, and coherence. Eureka math was developed about 6 years ago as a free resource under NYENGAGE. Anyone could download these resources; the problem came in when schools had to print the resources.
Later NYENGAGE was struggling with finances and The Bill and Melinda Gates became one of their benefactors.
The reviews from EDReports suggest that Eureka is one of the few mathematical resources that enable teachers to teach math with fidelity.
Eureka Math is the printed version of NYEngage, Great Minds is the digital version of the same curriculum.
I have attached a link if you wish to have access to further information of the valuable resource;

Firing Up Synapses Through Drumming!

Gulf Beaches Elementary Magnet School

'Imagine an interactive circle of kids, all drumming together, holding a common pulse and weaving a facilitated rhythm into a cohesive musical experience.” Giving Tree Music is a production company that actually delivers everything they advertise. You will indeed experience “laughter, learning, and an increased mutual respect between teachers, students and their peers,' just as they advertise on their website.
Many years ago, I originally experienced this wonderful event when I took my gifted students to a nursing home. I was so impressed with the high energy level of the instructor and how he exuded passion for his music while receiving 100% audience participation, that I booked him for my school.
Giving Tree Music truly feels that their program is not just about drumming. They “use the drums as a vehicle to build community and empower individuals to find their own true voice.” Sadly, many students do not find a level of academic success in school, and they feel truly free and happy when outside at PE, or creating in the art room, or performing at music. This production is the perfect vehicle to reach many children who learn through movement and/or music, which is one of the eight multiple intelligences. There are no other programs around that could remotely match the level of rich participation from students and adults alike. Gulf Beaches wants to use all creative means possible to motivate our students to raise test scores and learn at their highest potential.
