Literacy Footprints Kit for 4th Grade Students

Azalea Elementary School

Our goal is to systematically grow students in reading by using Jan Richardson's Next Steps in Guided Reading Program. Literacy Footprints is designed for classroom teachers to use with their students or provide interventions to low achieving scholars. It meets the needs of diverse learners by providing vocabulary rich lessons for ELL students and helps support students in special education programs by providing appropriate scaffolds. Each kit contains sequenced, high-quality leveled texts in a variety of genres. Students will experience the richness of traditional tales, realistic fiction, fantasy, and informational texts that will allow to move from emergent to fluent readers. The goal is to continue the work that has been done in kindergarten through third grade by providing another year of systematic teaching strategies outlined by Jan Richardson to increase our students ability to fill in the holes they need in foundational skills while increasing their ability to comprehend text to meet the rigor to the common core standards.

Engaging Students With One to One Technology

Azalea Elementary School

I would like to prevent my students from experiencing any limitations. Providing them with technology to utilize each day will help them become responsible digital citizens. Teaching at a Title One school sometimes means those limitations are in place. This past year, however, I did what I could to provide them with technology. I watched them use this technology to SOAR. My young students became masters at Office 365, Nearpod, and responsible researching. They used curriculum based programs such as ST MATH and Istation as well. They created items digitally to display the content we were learning about. It was, by far, my most rewarding year of teaching yet. I want to give each student that enters my classroom this same opportunity, but unfortunately I do not have the means. Children are our future; technology is the way of the world; when you bring the two together children can be empowered and unstoppable.

We 'Tech'nically Love To Learn By 'App'lying Ourselves

Bauder Elementary School

My goal is to create students who are 21st century thinkers and learners, and prepared for the demands of middle, high school, and beyond while developing a love for the quest of knowledge. Currently, we have had in place for 5 years the Seminole Educational Ecosystem that consists of about 14 schools in our areas, and we collaborate a few times a year to see what is needed not only in our school, but beyond.I would love my students be able to use technology to enhance their curriculum. This will allow students to be able to not only complete work at school, but students will be able to access the same assignments at home. Assignments will be 'pushed out' through Office 365. Here students will be able to see assignments and the teacher will be able to give feedback. Since technology is continuing to be such a crucial part of everyday lives, it seems only natural to begin students at a young age on their journey through technology. Students will also be producing an ePortfolio of their assignments.

Reading and Writing are the heart and soul of teaching literacy. Children need to be taught explicit strategies in order to develop and refine their writing skills in order to support content area writing. This Unit of Study will me foster higher level thinking with 3rd grade students as well as teach them strategies for content area writing. 3rd grade is a critical year for assessments and writing plays a big part of those assessments. I want to provide my students the very best writing environment where they develop a LOVE of writing!! This unit of study will be a critical guide for me to use in developing my mini lessons and preparing my students to be life long writers.

Firing Up Synapses Through Drumming!

Gulf Beaches Elementary Magnet School

'Imagine an interactive circle of kids, all drumming together, holding a common pulse and weaving a facilitated rhythm into a cohesive musical experience.” Giving Tree Music is a production company that actually delivers everything they advertise. You will indeed experience “laughter, learning, and an increased mutual respect between teachers, students and their peers,' just as they advertise on their website.
Many years ago, I originally experienced this wonderful event when I took my gifted students to a nursing home. I was so impressed with the high energy level of the instructor and how he exuded passion for his music while receiving 100% audience participation, that I booked him for my school.
Giving Tree Music truly feels that their program is not just about drumming. They “use the drums as a vehicle to build community and empower individuals to find their own true voice.” Sadly, many students do not find a level of academic success in school, and they feel truly free and happy when outside at PE, or creating in the art room, or performing at music. This production is the perfect vehicle to reach many children who learn through movement and/or music, which is one of the eight multiple intelligences. There are no other programs around that could remotely match the level of rich participation from students and adults alike. Gulf Beaches wants to use all creative means possible to motivate our students to raise test scores and learn at their highest potential.
