Literacy Footprints Kit for 4th Grade Students

Azalea Elementary School

Our goal is to systematically grow students in reading by using Jan Richardson's Next Steps in Guided Reading Program. Literacy Footprints is designed for classroom teachers to use with their students or provide interventions to low achieving scholars. It meets the needs of diverse learners by providing vocabulary rich lessons for ELL students and helps support students in special education programs by providing appropriate scaffolds. Each kit contains sequenced, high-quality leveled texts in a variety of genres. Students will experience the richness of traditional tales, realistic fiction, fantasy, and informational texts that will allow to move from emergent to fluent readers. The goal is to continue the work that has been done in kindergarten through third grade by providing another year of systematic teaching strategies outlined by Jan Richardson to increase our students ability to fill in the holes they need in foundational skills while increasing their ability to comprehend text to meet the rigor to the common core standards.

Engaging Students With One to One Technology

Azalea Elementary School

I would like to prevent my students from experiencing any limitations. Providing them with technology to utilize each day will help them become responsible digital citizens. Teaching at a Title One school sometimes means those limitations are in place. This past year, however, I did what I could to provide them with technology. I watched them use this technology to SOAR. My young students became masters at Office 365, Nearpod, and responsible researching. They used curriculum based programs such as ST MATH and Istation as well. They created items digitally to display the content we were learning about. It was, by far, my most rewarding year of teaching yet. I want to give each student that enters my classroom this same opportunity, but unfortunately I do not have the means. Children are our future; technology is the way of the world; when you bring the two together children can be empowered and unstoppable.

We 'Tech'nically Love To Learn By 'App'lying Ourselves

Bauder Elementary School

My goal is to create students who are 21st century thinkers and learners, and prepared for the demands of middle, high school, and beyond while developing a love for the quest of knowledge. Currently, we have had in place for 5 years the Seminole Educational Ecosystem that consists of about 14 schools in our areas, and we collaborate a few times a year to see what is needed not only in our school, but beyond.I would love my students be able to use technology to enhance their curriculum. This will allow students to be able to not only complete work at school, but students will be able to access the same assignments at home. Assignments will be 'pushed out' through Office 365. Here students will be able to see assignments and the teacher will be able to give feedback. Since technology is continuing to be such a crucial part of everyday lives, it seems only natural to begin students at a young age on their journey through technology. Students will also be producing an ePortfolio of their assignments.

'ACH' The FUNdamentals of Finance

Calvin A. Hunsinger

Calvin Hunsinger is a school for students who are experiencing severe emotional and behavioral issues. My goal is to have a School Store where students are able to learn money management by 'earning' points based on their behavior and then 'spending' or 'saving' their 'money' (points) at the School Store. I want to incorporate concepts such as what constitutes a 'need' versus a 'want', what 'credit' really means, the ideas of 'layaway' and 'sale', and demonstrate how students can wisely spend, save and budget their money so as to make solid 'financial' decisions. To make this more meaningful to the students they will be keeping their own records of what they earn each day, what they spend, what their balance is, what they owe, if anything, and what amount is left to pay if they have an item on “layaway”. If their records are not up to date, they will not be allowed to shop at the Store, because one cannot manage their money (points) if you are not aware of your financial situation. My ultimate goal is that these skills will generalize to the 'real world' when these students begin to manage their own financial lives. My hope is that this opportunity to manage their School Store points will provide them with a model of how to make responsible decisions that will positively impact their financial futures.

Sembler - Experiential and Hands on Learning

Campbell Park Elementary School

Located in south St. Petersburg, very close to Tropicana Field, Campbell Park Elementary School is home to more than 575 students in grades Pre-Kindergarten-5th. The school’s population is 91% African American and more than 90% are eligible for free lunch. Free breakfast and an after-school meal are also available to our students.
Our goal is to prepare students with the vital knowledge and skills they will need for college or careers, while at the same time encouraging creativity, and a life-long appreciation for learning.
Our objective is to improve creativity, expression, reading and comprehension by providing our pre-K and kindergarten students, with real-world experiences that they can read about in our classrooms. They can touch, taste, and then grow a pumpkin they read about in a book. See farm animals they watched in videos, read about in books, and created with art materials. They can “play at the beach,” in our outdoor classroom with shells, sand, and materials that allow them to build a sand castle, sort “life-like” beach animals and understand which ones live in the water, in the air, and on land. They can then go to the beach and actually see, touch, hear and interact with the beach environment. These life experiences give them the beginnings of understanding, expression, and comprehension of language, the written word and their world.

Holocaust Museum Field Trip

Clearwater High School

My goal is to take 11th grade US History students to the Florida Holocaust Museum during the week of Holocaust Remembrance Day, January 2019. There, they will view the museum artifacts with the assistance of a docent. In the process, they will come away with a greater understanding of the impact of the Holocaust. Also, since many of my students have never visited a museum, this will expand their horizons and give them a new experience.

Reading and Writing are the heart and soul of teaching literacy. Children need to be taught explicit strategies in order to develop and refine their writing skills in order to support content area writing. This Unit of Study will me foster higher level thinking with 3rd grade students as well as teach them strategies for content area writing. 3rd grade is a critical year for assessments and writing plays a big part of those assessments. I want to provide my students the very best writing environment where they develop a LOVE of writing!! This unit of study will be a critical guide for me to use in developing my mini lessons and preparing my students to be life long writers.

Homework HELPPPPP........IPads please.

Curtis Fundamental Elementary School

During the 2016 - 17 school year we began a Homework Help program for our students in aftercare. Three days a week students from Dunedin High School Honor Society offered their time to our students in the YMCA aftercare program. During data chats it was frequently mentioned that the aftercare students were struggling to complete homework, especially correctly. Often times, when we were assisting the students, we needed computers to complete assignments. To make the project more effective this year we would like to have Ipads readily available during the help session.Since we work with small groups five would be efficient. As the students finish another group is quickly brought in.
