Goal

My goal is for my students to have the sensory supports that they need within the classroom setting. Working with students who are at varying levels and require different levels of support, I want to have what they need within the classroom.

What will be done with my students

My students require breaks throughout the day, some more frequently than others. I want to ensure that my students have areas within the classroom where they can take a break, calm down, and regulate themselves without having to leave the classroom setting. Additionally, students will have mini books and workbooks to support their individual social skills needs, behavior skills, and executive functioning skills.

Benefits to my students

The benefits to my students include a variety of options and areas within the classroom where they can take a break and calm down, if needed. My students will learn what helps them to calm down and will learn how to use visuals and/or to verbally ask for a break. Students will learn social emotional skills, social skills, and executive functioning skills through mini books and workbooks.

Describe the Students

I teach 2nd to 5th grade students with autism in a sensory communication classroom. I currently have 24 students. 7 of my students are working towards access standards, 5 of my students have evaluations opened to consider access standards, and my other students are working towards grade level standards. My students receive different levels of support. Some receive language therapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy, vision services, deaf and hard of hearing services, and/ or physical therapy. All of my students receive social skills supports and some require more intensive behavior supports through a functional behavior assessment.

Budget Narrative

Items in the budget will allow for calming areas within the classroom, calming visual supports, calming music supports, and hands on items for breaks. Students will also have mini books and workbooks to support their varying social emotional needs.
