Goal

The goal for this project is to purchase Osmo kits for our iPads to use for STEM lessons in the library.

What will be done with my students

The Osmo kits will be used during Library STEM time with students. When students come to the library, they have the option to chose from a STEM activity while also checking out books. These would allow for students to have a technology option. Specifically, Osmo combines physical objects with digital gameplay, creating an interactive and engaging environment. Osmo sets encourage hands-on, tactile learning using physical objects and manipulatives to use in a tangible way.

We already have 5 of the kits, used them STEM night and they were a BIG hit. The additional 11 kits will allow for more students to use the technology option when they come to library.

These kits have a spelling component, math component, and spatial reasoning component.

Benefits to my students

These kits will be used by ALL students at our school as they come to the library. Every class comes every other week and will all have a chance to use the OSMO kits. Students will be able to build on their spelling and math skills as well as their reasoning and problem-solving skills.

Describe the Students

Skycrest has a student population of 542 students where 59% are Hispanic, 21% are White, non-Hispanic, 12% are Black, non-Hispanic, 4% are Multiracial and 2% are either American Indian/Alaskan Native or Asian Pacific Islander. Also, 100% of our students receive free lunch while 56% of our student population are ESOL students.

Academically, 25% of our students are on a progress monitoring plan, 19% of our students receive ESE services and 2% of our students are in our Gifted/Talented program.

Budget Narrative

The funds will be used to purchase the Osmo Genius Starter Kit to be used during Library STEM time so at least 1/2 the class can be on devices at the same time.
