To create a Mural with my 5th grade students on Lakewood Elementary School campus as a legacy project
Students will be fully engaged in the Mural Process from brainstorming ideas, collaboration, and painting of the mural
Students will benefit by:
-having the opportunity to express themselves creatively
-gaining practical skills in art, problem solving, communication & collaboration
-teaches teamwork and shared responsibility
-creates a welcoming learning environment
-gives students a sense of achievement and ownership as they 'leave their mark' on the school
My students are a mix between ESE and low performing levels with several high performers. Involvement in a mural would be a great opportunity for them to feel a sense of equity in a mixed group of learning levels and abilities.
I would bring in an experienced local muralist to explain more about murals to my students, they would also assist in the process of creating the mural and deciding the proper supplies we would need. We would work together with the students to complete it. Muralists typically charge per square foot plus supplies. Depending on funding we would then decide on a space to put mural. I would work with my 5th graders during art class to complete the mural as a legacy project with them to be completed before they graduate in May.
