to provide students a meaningful learning opportunity through participation in both the technical and performance aspects of staging a play.
Students will actively collaborate to stage a play. In the process of moving from idea to performance, students will be given opportunities to contribute artistic choices in both performance and design. Students will be responsible for all aspects of the play including dramaturgy, performance, technical and design. In this way, students will be able to explore, develop and synthesize all of the elements of theatre.
Ability to participate in an engaging activity that promotes innovation, collaboration, leadership skills, self efficacy, self discipline and critical thinking skills while fostering social connections.
Participation in a school play provides real world application of theories and techniques learned in theatre class by providing for the integration and implementation of those ideas and skills. Producing a play places real-life demands upon the students: working with scripts through analysis and memorization; risk taking and resilience through the audition process; self discipline to meet the demand of rehearsal and production schedules; utilizing stagecraft skills to realize technical designs; collaborating with other artists; and cooperating with individuals and groups.
Our Title 1 high school's drama student population comprises a diverse community, encompassing ESE (Exceptional Student Education) and ELL (English Language Learners) students. This inclusive mix highlights our commitment to providing an enriching theatrical experience for students from varied backgrounds and abilities.
Our drama program is self funded, using money generated from ticket sales to fund our next project. By producing a play, we hope to draw the interest of more students so we can continue to build our program and offer the experience of theatre to more students.
