The goal is to fund two computer programs reading inventory and reading counts for our students.
Students will take a reading inventory test three times in the school year. The reading inventory test gives the students their Lexile Level. This gives students the ability to select a just right book.
Every three to four weeks students will select a just right book based off their Lexile Level. After reading the book, they take a quiz on the reading counts program. The quiz will determine whether or not they have an understanding of what they read.
When students learn their Lexile Level, they can select a just right book. They select a book that is not too easy and not too hard. They also get to select a book that they have an interest in reading. Having a just right book will also build confidence in our readers because it will be something they are interested in reading. As teachers, it will help us determine what our students may or may not be struggling with and in turn, we can provide better instruction. Our students can only benefit when we are able to see where they are struggling and provide that extra support.
Our students are a very diverse group in regards to ESE and low/high performers. We have students that struggle with reading and students that excel.
