To have adequate storage for equipment, allowing for easier access to materials to enhance the students learning experience.
Students and teachers will be able to access equipment safely and easily. Due to the many years of weather damage and this year's recent hurricane season, our current storage shed is unsafe for student use.
We like allowing students to help with the set-up and storage of equipment, trying to teach them responsibility and have ownership over the materials. Right now, we are unable to do so. We found in the past that giving the students more responsibility has led to an increase in learning gains and less behavior issues.
Having a new shed will not only benefit the teachers, as we have been operating out of very limited space, but also the students. They will be able to take on more responsibility, which should lead to more learning gains and less behavior issues. Students will also learn about organization, which will hopefully translate into learning gains in the classroom.
Our school is made up of a varying population including students coming from the following backgrounds/race/ethnicities/classifications...
African American
Asian
Economically Disadvantaged
Hispanic
Students with Disabilities
White
The entire budget will be put towards purchasing a large shed that can withstand the outside elements of teaching in Florida.
