Goal

The goal of this grant is to update the collection of physical books available for check-out in the Bauder Elementary Media Center.

What will be done with my students

Students are given the opportunity to visit the library on a weekly basis with their class or as often as they'd like during open hours. Students browse the shelves for a book of their choice and may check it out for up to two weeks.

Benefits to my students

Ensuring the library collection is relevant and in good condition encourages students to continue engaging in reading and talking about books they love! Students enjoy visiting the media center where they have the freedom to choose a book that suits their varied interests. Therefore, it is vital to continually review the status of the collection and use the Collection Development Plan to influence purchase decisions.

Please consider allocating up to $3,000 to update the media center collection of physical books. The Collection Development Plan shows the collection is outdated with an average age of 2005. Furthermore, many of the more popular books are in poor condition and need to be replaced.

This year Bauder used over $2,000 of library media funding to replace damaged copies of the most popular chapter book series and add newly published titles for the Fiction Chapter Book Section. Also, an $800 Gender Equity Grant was used to purchase STEM related nonfiction titles to promote reading in male students. Your support is needed to help update the young readers’ collection.

The money requested from this grant will be allocated to purchasing newly published titles for the Everyone Section. While all Bauder students like, and use this section, PreK-second grade students benefit the most from this section. Therefore, titles were chosen with primary learners in mind. Please look at the included book list as you determine the level of support you are able to provide to these young readers.

Moving forward, books will be purchased with the Follet binding guarantee. If a book is damaged, it can be replaced free of charge for the lifetime of the book.

Thank you for considering this grant request to support the students using the Bauder Media Center.
