Decrease chronic tardiness by providing alarm clocks as part an evidence-based strategy to reduce lost instructional time. With nearly 75 students arriving late daily, the goal is to reduce late arrivals by 20%.
Students arriving late are met by the paraprofessional to receive their tardy pass. As part of this initiative, students will receive an alarm clock and instructions on time management and punctuality. Students who persist in being late will have accountability and support by the school staff.
Chronic students loose hours of instructional time and often feel alienated from their teachers and peers. In showing support and interest in their individual situation, a relationship of trust begins and serves as motivation to conform to appropriate time expectations.
According to the 22-23 SIP, there are 983 students at Lakewood HS with some 280 showing attendance below 90%. Data from 21-22 Survey 3 indicates 58% of our students are economically disadvantaged (FRL). Race/Ethnicity data shows 50% Black, 7% Hispanic, 25% White, 3% Asian, and 15 % Other. The ESE make up shows 19% in special education programs with an additional 11% gifted.
