Goal

To provide my students with a gathering area carpet that meets the fire code standards and safety regulations. The gathering area is the heart of classroom and provides a place for my students to talk to each other, build our community, and to learn new concepts.

What will be done with my students

The classroom gathering area carpet is a common meeting place for students and the teacher. Concepts are introduced and practiced. Stories are heard. Thinking takes place. We can gather around something new and explore it together. It's that one special place where everyone feels welcome and everyone knows that something new and exciting is about to take place!

The carpet is a home inside a classroom, fostering learning, and creativity.

Benefits to my students

Community is so critical in developing confident, capable learners. By having a classroom carpet, the students will have a chance to get out of their chairs and come together to learn up close and personal!

Being physically closer fosters more active listening, more engagement, and more empathy for one another as we share ideas, hold conversations, and work together as a whole group

Describe the Students

My classroom is made up of many wonderful children. I have ESE students, ESOL students, high, average, and low performers. Students are coming from many different backgrounds. Having a safe gathering area rug is so important now more than ever, in order to nurture the social emotional needs of my students.
