What will be done with my students

My students will be continuing a garden we already started but the funds we used purchased journals and a book for gardening in pots and some flowers. Now we are expanding and changed building to where there is a big plot of land with better soil and we would like more and different plants to plant, care fir, learn about, measure, and talk and write about. We have a beautiful tree we would like to plant flower s around, use recycled newspapers under mulch to stop grass / weed growth. Put painted rocks around the edges with flags, dates, name of each student and eventually picnic tables to unite each student while taking breaks and lunch. This creates friendships and many conversation and writing opportunities in their journals.

Benefits to my students

My students will benefit learning workforce skills, soft skills, teamwirk, reading and writing practice, recycling, taking care of the enviornment skills, math measurements using American measurements, tools and vocabulary about gardening, weather etc. , communicating in English, problem and solution findings, and being creative with hands-on activities. Being outdoors and learning will also ease emotional stress so benefit their overall wellness!

Describe the Students

My students are from ages 17 to age 78! They are all levels from students who barely know Engl ish or very little, to students who are transitioning and preparing to get a GED or apply to Pinellas Technical College or St. Pete College or have other academic SMART goals they are working towards. Some are students who work already and come to school to better their communication skills, technology skills, or learn more vocabulary and skills for their future job change through IET lessons and specific online programs we use. Some come for mock interviews and resume help when they reach level 7 the focus is on transitioning to higher education to earn certificates, complete TABE tests to move upwards and onwards reaching their career and educational goals.

Budget Narrative

Seeds for the garden, to grow non go culinary seeds. We need good soil so plants and veggies grow healthy. We need at least 10 bags till finish up our garden. The picnic table are foldable on sale 5o% off at Wal-Mart and reviews say it well made and strong and gas umbrellas. This would be great for students to sit amongst the plants and our big tree's shade to discuss then write on their journals.1 pack of 200 seeds of lavender to see and smell the aroma of lavender and learn about the calming effects of lavendar, besides enjoying its beauty!
