Goal

My goal is to create a classroom where all of my students feel physically and emotionally safe. My goal is to always grow their minds but also to create more independent, motivated and resilient children. Flexible seating will provide a more comfortable and conducive learning environment for my varied student population. This grant would not only effect my students this year but many students for years to come.

What will be done with my students

This grant would provide different options for the students to choose for flexible seating. Some may prefer to sit on the ground on a wobble cushion while others would prefer to be higher on a wobble cushion. Other students would benefit from the balance stools.

Benefits to my students

With this grant funding I can provide my students with more seating options and allow them the ability to choose what works best for them. When students have ownership over choices in their learning they tend to show a higher level of determination and therefore success. Students are not meant to sit still in a hard seat for long periods of time and more comfortable options would be ideal for their education. Third grade is a challenging year and anything that can make it more ideal would be beneficial to my students and my students in years to come.

Describe the Students

My students attend a Title One school and many come from difficult backgrounds that even we as adults cannot imagine living through. They come to school every day and leave their baggage at the door, most of the time. Some days it's hard for them to do that and I guide them through those days the best I can. My class consists of kids in the process to become ESE for various reasons, kids that may be entering gifted and others who have struggled for years but don't qualify for ESE services. Some come from families who speak a language other than English at home. Others are students who deal with immense anger and haven't quite figured out how to manage it. My class is a beautiful mixture of students from all backgrounds and abilities and they learn to make it work better than many adults do in our society. We work together to push ourselves and learn something new everyday.

Budget Narrative

Flexibility seating with wobble stools and gathering area rug to help students focus and become more productive.
I have included 2 different items in my budget. I have included wobble cushions for students to use as lowered tables and they can sit on the floor with the cushion. I have included wobble stools and a carpet to give students a space to call their own when sitting in the gathering area. Sometimes this is important for students to feel safe.
