Goal

The goal of this grant is to expose my 4th and 5th grade dance group at Melrose Elementary to a life preforming arts show to motivate and inspire them to achieve their dreams.

What will be done with my students

My dance group/students will attend "Family Blessing" at the Mahaffey Theater on December 19th, 2021.

Benefits to my students

The benefits of this experience to my students is exposure to preforming arts, increased motivation, increased creativity, seeing themselves in the cast (all black dancers), and believing that they can achieve and be on a stage as well one day.

Describe the Students

I am a 5th grade teacher at Melrose Elementary in South St. Pete. I run a dance group called Cultural Expressions for 4th and 5th grade girls at the school. The purpose of my dance group is to provide free dance lessons for girls that have families who couldn't afford it otherwise. I have 3 ESE girls, 8 low preforming girls, and 5 medium/high preforming girls. I take struggling girls under the wing of my dance group in hopes to motivate and inspire them.
