The goal is to get every student reading on grade level by the spring. This gives children the opportunity to enter the next grade level with confidence. Students can enter first grade with fluency.
Consistent reading groups are part of my practice. The amount of books, and the ease of use is not ideal, due to the cost of good, high interest texts for beginning readers.
In the event that we had more books, children would be able to take more books home, and have access to more of a variety of books in the classroom.
More access to more books creates a level of choice that I cannot feel confident that I provide at this time.
There will also be more home school connection if I can send some of the good books I already have home for homework reading. It is really nice for students to have books that truly capture their interest.
My students are Kindergarten students from diverse backgrounds, reading levels, and learning styles.
What they all have in common is a love of books, and holding those books in their hands.
These leveled readers will create a diverse reading selection to meet students needs and interest, in order to move them along more quickly, with enthusiasm and more ease of lesson planning. It will also help to give students texts that truly suit them.
