Students will have a variety of tools to use to create the imaginary world of Shrek! and other theatre productions.
Students work to create the sets for the plays. They help design, build and paint all of the technical elements for the plays and musicals. This year we are building Shrek! the musical. With each show we learn a new skill. This show we will learning to carve and paint styrofoam to create the sets for Shrek. We have to create multiple sets with very little space for storage. I would like to have them design and build a two sided rolling platform that will include sets for a castle and a swamp.
Students learn to be creative problem solvers, work collaboratively and use math and language arts in real world situations.
Most of my technical theatre students are new to the arts. There are 72 students in the 2 technical theatre classes. Students in my other theatre classes also may choose technical theatre projects. In my technical theatre classes I have 5 SE students, 8 students with 504 plans, and 8 ELL students.
Foam board is the medium for sculpting the castle and trees for the swamp. These supplies will allow multiple groups to create parts of the set.
