Goal

My students will benefit from hands on activities learning how to code, and see physical science in action. It will enhance eye hand coordination, problem solving, natural creativity, and teamwork. They will also build upon their reading and writing skills as they learn to navigate the coding process.

What will be done with my students

I will utilize the coding program that comes with the drone to teach my students a new computer language. We will practice the program, learn to manipulate it and eventually put it to work in the done to see if we can make it fly, turn and come down safely. My students will also learn how to edit their thinking in order to improve upon their work with the drones in a fun and engaging way.

Benefits to my students

My students will benefit tremendously. They are all ASD and thus lack many social and communication skills. As a result of these deficiencies, they are also behind in their reading and mathematical skills. Bringing in a program that incorporates science, math and reading in a fun, tangible way will build their skills and confidence to do much more.

Describe the Students

I teach in a Title 1 school in a primarily Hispanic, low income, industrial area where many students are first generation US American. My particular class consists of ASD students that receive all of their core subjects in a self-contained class.

Budget Narrative

I propose to purchase 6 drones, 6 protective cases, and 6 controllers that my students can manipulate.
