Goal

The goal of this grant is to integrate digital circuitry as a new digital medium in the art classroom. Students will create interactive, responsive art pieces through use of technology. 

 

What will be done with my students

Third grade students will create interactive, illuminated and illustrated “I Am” poems, as well as map the stars and the world around them. 

 

Benefits to my students

These projects will give students access new technology and new artistic mediums. In any classroom you will find a wide range of academic abilities. It is my goal to give all students a wide variety of experiences and methods for self expression. This electronic and interactive media will enhance allow students to express themselves in a whole new way. 

 

Describe the Students

Blanton is a Title One school and has students from various economic and cultural backgrounds. We have a total of 532 students. Our population includes 50 Asian/Pacific Islander students, 113 Black students, 115 Hispanic students, 19 Multiracial students, and 235 White students. Many of the students at Blanton have home lives that do not give them many choices.  

 

Budget Narrative

The materials needed for this project fall outside of traditional art room materials and include safe, conductive paper tape, batteries and LED lights. These materials also include a student workbook which may be duplicated under the Creative Commons license from Chibitronics.
