Goal

Our goal, as a second grade team, is to close the literacy gap for our students. We want students to have a text in their hand that they can read and have a feeling of success instead of failure.

What will be done with my students

Literacy Footprints is a comprehensive reading resource that will allow teachers to implement reading groups efficiently and meaningfully.
Students will be pulled in small groups (up to 6 students) multiple times a week. Students will each be given the same text on their reading level. We will work on strategies and skills to propel them to the next reading level. Students will read quietly together and given immediate feedback as they read. Students will record written response to the text and discuss elements of the book as a group.

Benefits to my students

Students will have research-based resources that have been designed by experts in their field. Students will be able to read the same book as their peers and discuss the plot, character, main idea and other components of the SAME text. They will not have to login to a computer to read a book, rather, they will have the experience of holding a book in their hands, turning each page to see what will happen next.
It is so important for students to read a text on their reading level. This program will give all of our struggling students an opportunity to read many books on their reading level, giving them an opportunity to quickly move to the next reading level!
