Goal

I am in need of a Document Camera to use in my classroom with my students and with my online students. I need to model correct sentence structure, letter formation, set up of math problems, etc. in order to assure my students are learning correct strategies and methods.

What will be done with my students

My students need to learn through many modalities. A document camera will allow them to see what I am doing as well as hear while I am speaking. I will use it to model while writing short and long answer essay questions in writing; correct set up of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division problems in math; use of manipulatives in math; etc. The examples are endless. The students will not only hear my explanations of what and how to do something but they will be able to see it. I am teaching both online and face to face classes this year with some classes being simultaneous so the camera will allow me to demonstrate these skills for both groups at the same time easily. This camera will become a permanent part of my classroom that will be used for many years to come.

Benefits to my students

The students will be able to see as well as hear the descriptions of what is happening in the classroom. The document camera will allow me to move manipulatives and project them on the smart board while showing them to the online students at the same time. This camera will allow me to easily "show" the manipulatives to my students without trying to move the computer around and use the computer camera. My students will also be able to use the document camera to "show what they know" to other students easily using the camera as a demonstration tool. This camera will become another tool that will be a permanent part of my classroom. It is a durable piece of technology that will last more than one year and therefore is a long term investment in my student's educational experience.

Describe the Students

This year I have 3rd and 4th grade ESE students. Their exceptionalities include: Specific Learning Disabilities; Autism; Language Disabilities; Other Health Impairment; Emotionally and Behaviorally Disordered; and Speech Impaired. Most of them have been retained at least once so they are over age for their grade. Each year, the grade level and number of students I have varies. I can have any grade level from kindergarten through fifth grade and any exceptionality.

Budget Narrative

This grant request includes the camera (which includes all the cords) except the one additional cord needed to attach to school computer. I have checked with our technology person and have seen this document camera in action.
