Goal

My goal is to take our scholars on two field trips that will enhance their learning experience with a combination of simulation of Countries Around the World, and an authentic experience, along with a chance to speak to experts in the field of traveling in our year long theme of, "Passports Around the World."

What will be done with my students

My Students are engaged in a year long STEM activity called Dream Vacations Inc. They are designing their dream vacations while we are learning about countries in our themed gifted program, "Passports Around The World." This project will guide students through the STEM process and Career Education.
Career Education: Experience of taking on the role of a travel agent and writer.
STEM – Science - Change in the world, traveling, history of modes of transportation. Technology – using 21st century tools to do research and create their products on the computers and explore various formats that are available. Engineering – Designing the plan, the trip, and the presentation/product. Math – Creating a cost sheet that will give the cost of the dream vacations.
The field trip to Epcot will allow them to experience the different parts of the world and their customs to build their schemata of the work we are doing in class and the world around them.
The field trip to the airport will provide them with the knowledge of transportation. We have a busy travel industry and they will have a guided tour and be able to speak with experts in the field. This also supports their career minded development.
At the same time this is being done scholars are learning about different countries they choose to research and present.

Benefits to my students

My students will be able to get to Epcot to see a simulation of what we are learning in our Gifted Program this year, "Passports Around The World." The second bus will take us to Tampa International Airport where my students will have an authentic experience at the airport, ability to speak with experts in the field and learn how transportation has changed so quickly over the years. Students will also be able to take with them the new knowledge and skills from their research and add future projects.
