My goal is to have a complete guided reading library for my entire grade level in order to reach all learners. Adding a First Grade Literacy Footprint Kit to our Guided Reading supplies would help us with planning and delivering pinpointed instruction.
By the end of the school year, students will increase their reading comprehension levels by using strategies taught in guided reading specific to their ability levels, as measured by Reading (Running) Records and/or MAP assessments.

Goal

What will be done with my students

Guided reading gives us the opportunity to ensure more reading in school (with instructional support) and provides the following: Daily experience reading a text at a level that supports accuracy and comprehension.
This request would supply books that will support guided reading groups for all of our children, especially the struggling students who come to us. Our whole grade level would have access to lower level books to use in small group guided reading.

Benefits to my students

We will have a variety of reading leveled books from which to choose from so that we can effectively work with students who come to us significantly below grade level.

Describe the Students

Our grade level is made up of students with wide variety of special needs.
Our Second Grade classes total 90 students. Almost 15% of our second grade is black, 10% is Asian, almost 25% is Hispanic. 19% of our second grade students qualify for ESE services. Our entire school qualifies for free/reduced lunches.
Many of our students are strugglers who would benefit from the extra support supplied through guided reading groups tailored to their needs.

Budget Narrative

We will purchase a First Grade Kit from Literacy Footprints.
The Literacy Footprints Guided Reading System leads teachers through the process of planning a powerful Guided Reading lesson. The purchase price includes the complete kit.
