Goal

Create a supportive environment for 25 young ladies, promote student achievement, encourage positive behaviors, enhance self-discipline, develop personal dependability, cultivate high self-esteem, build strong relationships, encourage community service, and provide positive role models.

What will be done with my students

Each participant will receive a mentor, the mentor will check in with the mentee, have lunch with the mentee and participate in various monthly activities throughout the month that will accomplish our goals.

We would like have an opening ceremony where mentees receive etiquette training and an introduction to the program. We would like to transport them to the Dr. Carter G. Woodson museum for a tour and training. At the end of the year would like to take the Girlfriends on a college tour at University of Florida. Providing information regarding goals and opportunities available.

Benefits to my students

Mentees will be provided opportunities to set and accomplish goals, grow in their learning of themselves and academics as well as, receive a sense of gratitude .

Describe the Students

The participants of Girlfriends are very unique. We have scholars that are ESE, low and high performers at our Title I school. This opportunity would be invaluable to our scholars.

Budget Narrative

The funds will be used to rent a bus for scholars to go tour the Carter G. Woodson African American Museum and receive training and information about Girlfriends and expectations. They will receive their Girlfriends Gift and have lunch. At the end of the year we would like to take scholars to the University of Florida for a tour. This would require that we Charter a bus and provide food for the day trip.

Thank you for your consideration,
Caprice Johnson and Candace Nyarkoh
