Goal

My goal is to receive books for my 60 scholars to share for book clubs. Having books of interest that engage students and make them want to continue to read allows for an opportunity to excite scholars and fosters a love for reading

What will be done with my students

My students will receive a book to read in a "book club" that is a part of a series. This will get them excited to continue to read because as they complete one book they will want to learn more about the characters they have just developed in the first book. The book club idea will allow students to have conversations around what they read and again excite their love of reading.

Benefits to my students

Scholars will be exposed to books at and beyond their reading levels, really pushing them beyond their daily scope of reading.
Scholars will find a love for reading.
Scholars will debate reading topics and ideas within the text with their peers.
Scholars will answer text dependent questions.

Describe the Students

I have three 4th grade classes made up of ESE, ELL, and both low and high performers. My school is a title 1 school with 100% of the students receiving free lunch.

Budget Narrative

My students will receive a book to read in a "book club" that is a part of a series. This will get them excited to continue to read because as they complete one book they will want to learn more about the characters they have just developed in the first book. The book club idea will allow students to have conversations around what they read and again excite their love of reading.
I will have each student reading the same book together as a group of 5. They will then have discussion on the book and answer questions about their series. The book clubs will consist of student led conversations and I as the teacher will be the facilitator.
