Goal

To reward traditionally under-performing students for academic achievements, positive behaviors , and attendance. To encourage normally over-looked students to improve in their reading proficiency.

What will be done with my students

Students will be monitored and tracked for progress. Their reading proficiency and lexile will be assessed. Their attendance will be monitored. Students will be encouraged and mentored by staff that are specifically assigned to them.

Benefits to my students

Tracking for progress will decrease feelings of apathy and disenfranchisement in students through one-on-one mentoring. Student reading proficiency and lexile will increase through Reading Plus. Attendance will improve through staff oversight. Students will be encouraged and mentored by staff, improving overall campus culture. Using non-fiction and informational texts, students will demonstrate mastery in reading and writing skills through the Insight Assessment.

Describe the Students

100% of students involved are level 1 and 2 in FSA reading and math. The group is comprised of the school's L35 population, is predominately African American. Most of the group receive free and reduced lunch and a minority of the population are enrolled in the Center for Advanced Technology which is overwhelmingly male. The targeted group corresponds with a high percentage of at risk variables.

Budget Narrative

These funds will support quarterly positive behavior incentives that target students who are not frequently celebrated. Concrete, incremental goals will be emphasized and rewarded. This program is aligned with the district's on-going move towards equity and closing the achievement gaps.
