The goal of this grant is to assist our students in obtaining their GED diploma. We work with the homeless population at Pinellas Hope homeless shelter where the majority of our students are unemployed or underemployed. A major obstacle for our students is being able to pay for the GED test. This grant would pay for students to take the GED test and earn their diploma.

Goal

The goal of this grant is to assist our students in obtaining their GED diploma. We work with the homeless population at Pinellas Hope homeless shelter where the majority of our students are unemployed or underemployed. What will be done with my students

Financial literacy is currently not a required part of the adult education curriculum. Before receiving financial assistance for testing, students will be required to attend a "Set for Life" course. This will help students develop realistic expectations regarding what income they need to achieve in order to enjoy the lifestyle they desire as well as plan for retirement. The course content will cover necessary expenses versus superfluous expenses, creating and managing a budget, saving for the future, and unexpected expenses.

Benefits to my students

Students will benefit by being able to pay for their GED tests and learning valuable, lifelong, money managing skills.

Describe the Students

The majority of our students range in age from 18-45. They are all currently homeless living at Pinellas Hope, a homeless shelter in Clearwater, FL. Many do not have a high school diploma and aspire to obtain their diploma and either enter the workforce or continue their education.

Budget Narrative

The grant money will be used to purchase 31 individual GED test vouchers at a cost of $32 each.
