Goal

To Implement a House system in our 5th grade classrooms in order to increase student engagement.

What will be done with my students

Students will be sorted into house groups. They will earn points throughout the year for exemplary behavior, academics, and citizenship. Houses will work together, support each other, and engage in friendly competition throughout the year. Monthly celebrations will reward the leading houses. The house with the most points at the end of the year will earn the house cup. Students will receive T-shirts to wear on House Spirit Days and Field Days, as well as other house gear (wristbands, pencils, etc) to show their house pride throughout the year.

Benefits to my students

Students will learn to cooperate with others and support each other through a "family" dynamic. The house system will give our students a much needed emotional and academic support system. Students will be more engaged and enthusiastic about learning through the friendly competitions. Students will develop much needed character traits of respect, integrity, determination, and empathy.

Describe the Students

We are a Title I school. Our 5th grade consists of all types of students, including ESE, ELL, and Gifted students. We have 4 classes of 22 students each.
